Mega Uranium Ltd. CA:MGA 1.56% (“Mega”) is pleased to report the favorable outcome of the Queensland State election held on 24 March 2012 that resulted in the incumbent Labor Party government, which opposed uranium mining, being replaced by the Liberal National Party (“LNP”). The new LNP State Government has not announced its position on uranium mining, but is expected to follow the Federal LNP policy which supports uranium mine development throughout Australia. If so, there would no longer be any political impediment to the development of Mega’s Ben Lomond project and its other uranium resources in the State.

Flight Centre chief fights coal mines
Flight Centre chief executive Graham Turner has turned up the heat in a battle to prevent coalmines being opened up alongside nature reserves and residential communities in south-east Queensland.
Greenpeace wants the Queensland government to reject what would be Australia’s biggest coal mine, calling the proposal an act of environmental vandalism.
Submissions on Waratah Coal’s China First mine, planned for Galilee Basin west of Rockhampton, close on Monday.
The mine would produce 5.3 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions - or the equivalent of 1.5 million extra cars on the road - through the mining of coal alone, according to Greenpeace-commissioned research.
When burned, the coal would produce an additional 95 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year, equivalent to 16 per cent of Australia’s current emissions, Greenpeace says.
THE development of coal ”mega-mines” in central Queensland such as the massive China First project will destroy the world’s chance of keeping global warming to 2 degrees, Greenpeace says.
Environment group Friends of the Earth Brisbane is challenging the planned Xstrata mine at Wandoan, 350 kilometres west of Brisbane, which is set to be Queensland’s biggest single coal producer, and perhaps the biggest in the southern hemisphere.
